In this case, Pentir were asked to support the appointment process. Our brief was to work with the Governing Body and Trustees and devise a rigorous Headteacher appointment process. It was clear, from an early briefing meeting, that the Governors wanted this to be an inclusive process with the involvement of key stakeholders across the organisation.
We devised, agreed and implemented a process that involved staff, students, middle/senior leaders, parents and partners. There were a combination of exercises/tests as well as face to face meetings in different settings. The process took two days and culminated in a final interview with the appointments panel which also included a presentation.
Through briefing documentation and discussion, stakeholders were clear on their own role and how this fitted with the rest of the process and particularly how it fed into the final panel. Candidates found the process, rigorous and challenging but also fair as they were treated in a timely and professional manner
